PX Espresso☕with Luke O'Mahoney
Luke O'Mahoney is a former start-up Head of People turned creator, entrepreneur, and innovator in the start-up and scale-up People and HR scene.
Luke created SapienX as a platform of content, courses and community for the post-HR generation, with the focus on turning People teams into Product teams and People Leads into Product Leads.
As well as leading in the innovation and adoption of product-led PX (People Experience), Luke is also bootstrapping SapienX to £1Million AR and will share wins, fails, and learns about that journey along the way too.
PX Espresso ☕is for People Leaders who think like Product Leaders. It's also for employees who think like entrepreneurs, those who want to break free from traditional 9-5 employment to build something of their own.
So, if you are People Leader seeking out new ways of thinking and working inspired by product & GTM, you are in the right spot!
Equally, if you are thinking about, just starting-out, or already deep in your own entrepreneurial adventure, you will find plenty of honest reflections and insights on that front too!
Oh, and at the start of every episode you will also get a little insight into the world of speciality coffee☕... combine your passions and work becomes play!
✅Product-led thinking

Boom! 💥
Another week, another really great conversation to share with you all🤘🏻This week I am joined by Matt McFarlane, Snr People Experience Director @ Oyster.
Oyster are one of the most unique (and cool) People team set ups I have come across. Matt talks through the structure a little in our chat, but the umbrella term for the People part of the business is "Workplace Team", under which there are functions you might expect, like:
✅ Workplace Design
✅ Talent Acquisition
✅ People Experience
And some you might not, like:
🤔 Programme Management
🤔 Internal Comms & Events
🤔 IT (yes, org wide IT!)
It's a really great set up which makes a ton of sense to me. I hope Matt will join me again to talk this through in detail as it wasn't the main focus of our chat.
We covered topics like:
- Psychology as a base for a career in People / HR
- The transition from HR to People Experience
- Moving away from the semantic connotations of “Human Resources”
- PX as an enabler of people and performance
- Remote and Hybrid workplace design
- Continuous Performance Management / open feedback loops
But the main practical takeaway, Matt walked me through the Oyster Band Index (OBI) - Their approach to compensation levelling and creating a equitable, transparent, and consistent compensation philosophy for remote-first global hiring.
As always, I really enjoyed this conversation and I hope that you do too 🤘🏻🎙️
